Lent Prayer Guide – Good Friday

As we remember and contemplate Good Friday.

Stand before God with reverence and openness saying:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Having invoked the Holy Trinity, keep silence for a little while, so that your thoughts and feelings may be freed from whatever holds you back, and begin re-centering in God.  Then recite the following prayers without haste, and with your whole heart.

Opening Sentences

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;

according to your great compassion.

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Open my lips, Lord,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.

Scripture Reading

(spend some time reading and meditating on the last night of Christ)

Blessing
May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you,
wherever He may send you.
May He guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May He bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders He has shown you.
May He bring you home rejoicing
once again into our doors.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
